Team building is known to provide a strong foundation for many different sports. The importance of team building and a strong foundation in cheerleading cannot be underestimated. The trust it takes to participate in serious stunt work is irreplaceable. There are many quick, classic team building games and activities. If your squad is looking for a serious bonding experience, commit to an activity with long term rewards.

1. 5k Run
Being fit and healthy is an important part of a cheerleader’s job. Awesome, themed 5k runs are popping up all over the United States. A 5k can be run or walked and finishing as a team would be a great accomplishment either way. For a different kind of 5k experience check out the Electric Run 5k or the Bad Prom 5k. Getting dressed up in crazy outfits and finishing a 5k as a squad is the perfect way to kick off a new cheerleading season! For a more traditional experience, try the March of Dimes, Relay for Life, or another sponsored walk to raise money and community awareness for any number of great causes.

2. Parents Night Out Cheer Camp
Organize a Parents Day Out Cheer Camp with teacher volunteers and teach a new generation of elementary age girls the cheerleading basics. The event could be a fundraiser for your squad needs or for a purpose in the community. Customize the event to be a one-of-a-kind affair where the planning and event itself serves to unite your team. Make posters, send out flyers via your local elementary schools, and host the event in your school’s gym. Little girls everywhere look up to the cheerleaders as role models and a Cheer Camp is the perfect opportunity to make an impression. A Parents Day Out Cheer Camp is also a great opportunity to earn community service hours for graduation.

3. Community Outreach
There is always room for personal growth, both individually and as a team. Working on a number of community projects as a squad can provide an opportunity for both. Volunteering at the local homeless shelter, women’s shelter, or hosting a blood drive are excellent ways to give back to the community and earn community service hours. Any project planning or time spent in the service of your community is a chance to bond as a team.
It doesn’t matter what your team does together, just do something. Be active and contribute in your community. Every individual on the team will feel good about themselves and each other. Each moment spent as a squad outside of practice and being productive will allow the team to work better and stronger as a whole. Nothing is more important than knowing your teammates because that will determine how effective your squad’s silent communication will be during your routines.
