How to Find Cheer Camps

Spring is in the air which means that summer is just around the corner. Even though the teams you cheer for may be taking a break, there are still great ways to keep improving your cheer skills. Cheer camp is one of the easiest and most fun ways to continue improving your cheering skills while also making a lot of new friends who have the same passion as you. Here are a few things you and your parents should look for in a cheer camp:

Instruction and Fun:

Great cheer camps will offer a balance of top notch cheer instruction along with a good dose of regular summer camp fun. You do not want to go to boot camp! You want to have fun this summer like everyone else. While checking out a camp’s website, make sure to take note of what kind of non-cheer related activities they are offering during their sessions as well.

Professionalism:

You should also make sure that the camp is run by a professional team of cheer instructors that have a history in competitive cheerleading. Check out their references and their past career to make sure these are people you will actually be able to learn something from. If the organization running the camp is simply running a regular old summer camp with a few cheerleading classes thrown in, then you may not find it to be as beneficial as you would want.

Safety:

Reading reviews from past campers and parents is a great way to get a better understanding of the camp you are considering. You should consider that you will be staying at this facility for a week, possibly several weeks, and you want to make sure that this is a place where you can feel safe and comfortable. If your parents really want to go the extra mile, then you can call the local county sheriff’s department in the county the camp is located in and inquire as to if there have ever been any issues or complaints concerning the camp. You can never be too careful.

Groups are Great:

If at all possible go to camp as a group. Attending cheer camp as a group can be a great experience. In most cases you will feel more comfortable experiencing something new with people you know and are comfortable with. Plus when you learn new skills with your cheerleading teammates you will come back stronger than ever for the upcoming season.

Price and Location:

Check to find out if the camp is in your price range. Camps can vary greatly in price. Just like vacation resorts can be pretty average to absolutely luxurious, so can cheer camps. Brainstorm with your parents about what a reasonable price range would be and then try to keep your options in that range. You will also need to talk to your parents about how far away they want you to travel. Cheerleading camps are located all over the country, so get an idea of where you’d like to go.
