How to Get Curls Without Heat

Many cheerleading squads have strict rules about the way their cheerleaders must wear their hair. In an attempt to get a uniform look, a varsity cheerleader often must curl her hair to match the rest of the team. Whether you are prepping for a cheerleading tryout or are trying to match your squad mates for your upcoming cheerleading picture, you may need to take your straight locks and convince them to become a curly do for the day. Too much heat on your hair is not good for it, but we have good news for you! You can get great curls that will stay without heat. Here are some tried and true methods to consider: Overnight Rollers: One of the simplest ways to get curls without heat is to sleep with your hair in rollers. While this can be slightly uncomfortable, it is an effective way to get the curl you want. As you do this, remember that the size of your rollers matters. Big rollers will create big, lengthy curls, but small rollers will create small, tight curls. To do curl your hair with rollers, wash and condition your hair as your normally do, and blot it dry. Then, roll portions of it into the rollers until it is all rolled. Allow it to dry completely, preferably overnight. Take out the rollers, and use your fingers to loosen and shape the curls before spraying them with hairspray to hold them in place. If you find that this does not work, do the process again, but add some hair spray while the hair is in the rollers. Twist Curls: Twist curls may be more comfortable to sleep on than rollers, and they can be effective if you don't toss and turn too much. To create these curls, wash and condition your hair, then blot it dry. Separate the two sides. Then, starting with one side, twist portions of the hair tightly and clip them into a sort of bun on the side of your head. Repeat until all of your hair is twisted. Depending on how much hair you have, you should have three to six buns on each side. Allow the hair to dry completely and untwist. This will create loose spiral curls. Paper Towel Curls: Paper towel curls work just like rollers, but without the lumpy rollers. Instead of rolling your hair in rollers, roll it up into two-inch strips of paper towel, then tie the ends so that it will hold all night. The resulting curls are beautiful, and your head will thank you for an easier night's sleep. You can do the same thing with strips of an old t-shirt. As you are learning the cheerleading basics and trying out to be a varsity cheerleader, remember that your look is important too. With these strategies, you can get the look you need for your cheerleading tryout or cheerleading picture without heat damage to your hair.
